Domaine des Geneves

This is a small 14 hectare family estate, owned by the Aufrere family for several generations. It is situated just outside the village of Chablis in the hamlet of Fleys which is in the heart of Chablis’ Premier Cru sites.

Chablis Premier Cru comes from around thirty locations selected for their situation and the quality of their wines.  One of the most famous is “Les Fourneaux”. Domaine des Geneves produces wines with all the freshness, lightness, firmness and distinctive character one expects from top quality Chablis.

Chablis Premier Cru reaches a peak in its fifth year when it takes on a distinctive hazelnut note. Climate and soil are vitally important in Chablis. Frost can be a huge problem and it can be difficult to get grapes to ripen properly. The famous stony soils impart a steely flintiness to the wines. For these reasons, some Chablis can be very austere and lacking in fruit and therefore the quality of the producer is vitally important.

The comparison with AC Chablis lies chiefly in the Premier Cru’s complex and lingering bouquet, the aromas offering a mixture of honey, a touch of iodine and hints of vegetation. The amount produced per hectare is limited to 50 hl.

Domaine des Geneves produces wines very true to the mineral character of Chablis but as they also have a very rich concentration of fruit, they are very approachable and can be enjoyed by everyone – not only Chablis fans.
